Our Amazing Staff

 

BQS is pleased to introduce you to our amazing staff.  Each of these women brings their unique quilting talents and expertise to our studio.   We hope you find a smiling face that will share in your quilting journey.  Happy quilting and we look forward to meeting you in our studio!

 

Marilyn... the heartbeat of Bluebird Quilt Studio. 

Marilyn has been quilting for over 20 years.  Her quilting roots are in traditional quilting techniques and garment sewing, however, she has spread her wings and now embraces many quilting projects and styles with enthusiasm.  Marilyn is also a featherweight lover.  Marilyn loves sharing new quilting techniques and teaches many of our classes.  She shares her love of everything quilting    with sweet spirited abandon.

 

Shirley ... BQS owner and lover of quilting community

Shirley's love of quilting is surpassed only by her belief that the community created by quilters supports them in their lives.  Quilting design, custom long arm quilting and dreaming big dreams for the quilting community of BQS is her contribution to our studio.

 

 

Laura ... event planner extroidinaire

Laura is the chief organizing officer for Bluebird Quilt Studio events, including our Mother's Day Tea and BQS Schoolhouse.  Laura also instructs one section of our beginning quilting class.  She loves bright, contempory fabrics, long arm quilting and sharing her love of quilting with a smile.

 

 

Sara ...

Somehow, Sara missed out on the photo shoot for our web page.  None the less, she is the mastermind behind our block of the month programs.  Sara is a speed quilter.  Come and see her wonderful quilt samples in our shop.    She loves playing with beautiful fabric and sharing in the "show and tell" of quilter's projects in our studio.  Her kind heart and willingness to help you are sure to brighten your day.

 

 

 Mary ...  lover of hand applique and quilting

Mary loves traditional and historical quilting styles.  She instructs hand applique and quilting classes in our studio and rescues us from technology "issues".  Mary is also knowledgeable about quilt preservation and clothing construction.

 

 

Tami... lover of big quilts

Tami became a quilter when she was "kidnapped" to attend a quilting retreat.  Depite her conviction to the contrary she was seduced into the quilting world by her quilting friends and is now loves machine quilting.  Her sense of humor and love of people are a gift.

 

Diana ... paper piecer and color expert

Diana loves paper piecing and selecting fabrics for quilts.  Let her share her love of fabric selection with you on your next visit to our studio.

LONG ARM QUILTING CLASSES- Classes offered Wednesday afternoons 2-4:30 or Friday and Saturday mornings 9:30-12. $50  Class includes “flight” manual and  supplies.  Enjoy our Royal Ken Quilt full size long arm machine and finish your quilt tops in no time.  Call for availability and rental prices.

 

KIDS CAN QUILT CLUB- Thursdays 3:30-5pm   Ongoing   

 $60/month

Kids join us in the studio as we create fun quilt projects.  All supplies included ---even the fun! Join at any time!

 

KALEIDOSCOPE QUILT-  Monday evenings, November 2^nd and 9^th.   6:30-8:30 PM $35 plus ruler and book

Use Marti Michelle’s Kaleidoscope Ruler and book to make this great quilt.

 

GINGERBREAD PEOPLE- PAPER PIECING CLASS- Tuesdays, November 3^rd and 10^th    6:30-8:30 PM

 $40 (kits available)

Paper piece this cute quilt with Karen Ruby then dress the gingerbread people with fun embellishments.

 

HOT RIBBON APPLIQUE- Wednesdays, November 4^th and 11^th 6:30-9:00 PM    $35 plus book and supplies

You will WOW your friends when you make this spectacular floral display! The newest thing in appliqué!!

 

ADVANCED MACHINE QUILTING WITH MENTOR- Thursdays, November 12^th and 19^th    6:30-8:30 PM   $40

Bring your quilt project that is giving you trouble and receive help in machine quilting as you quilt your own project.

 

FEATHERWEIGHT MAINTENANCE CLASS- Saturday, November 14^th 9:30-4pm

$59.95     Own a featherweight? Learn the ins and outs of your machine and how to maintain it. Taught by local featherweight experts! A must take class for all those who own a featherweight.

 

CHRISTMAS TABLERUNNER- Wednesday, November 18^th 9:30-12:30pm

$25 plus kit    Come make and take a Christmas table runner. Finish it in one day!

 

CHRISTMAS HANDPRINT WALLHANGING- Saturday, November 21^st   9:30-12:00    $25 includes all supplies

Bring your kids and make this cute wall hanging with family handprints! 

 

PANIC PARTY/ MAKE IT AND TAKE IT – Friday December 4^th  6:00 – midnight.

Bring your own project to finish for Christmas or make one of ours to take home. More information coming…

 

ACCIDENTAL LANDSCAPE- Monday January 4^th     10:00 – 12:00p.m.    $25 plus book

 These adorable little landscapes are fun and easy to make.  Bet you can’t make just one!

 

GUMBA YA YA (Beginner II)  Tuesdays,  January 5^th & 12^th    1:00 – 4:00 p.m.     $35.00 plus pattern.

Make a few simple blocks and turn it in to a great quilt with a variety of options!  A good one for advanced beginners. 

 

BEGINNING QUILTING-    Wednesday mornings,  January 6^th – February 10th  9:30-12:30  or Thursday evenings, January 7^th – February 11^th  6:30-9:00 p.m.  $75    Come in and learn this fun, rewarding hobby!  Inspiration and encouragement and instruction provided.

 

BAG OF RULERS- Friday January 8^th  & 15th  1-4 pm     $ 40 plus pattern

Make this perfect tote for your rulers, mats, and fabric. Great for taking to classes or simply storing those hard to store rulers!

 

RHODODENDRON WALLHANGING – Tuesdays January 12^th & 19^th 9:30 – 12:30  $35 plus silk petals

Make a delightful wall hanging using the latest fusible silk petals.  (other patterns and silk flowers may be available)

 

DIVA ESSENTIALS PURSE- Wednesdays, January 20^th, 27^th and February 3^rd  1-4pm   $35 plus pattern   

Great little bag that opens to reveal a surprisingly spacious interior with plenty of pockets (including a SECRET POCKET!)

 

BEGINNING PAPER PIECING- Tuesdays,  February 9^th      9:30- 12:30.    $25 includes supplies  

 Learn the basics of paper piecing in this “make it and take it” class.

 

MACHINE QUILTING- Friday,   January 22^nd  9:30 a.m-12:30   $25 includes supplies

We will teach you the basics of machine quilting on your home machine.  Straight lines or free motion, it’s easy!

 

NEEDLE EDUCATION CLASS – Monday January 25^th  1:00 – 4:00 p.m. $25.00.

Ever wondered what needle to use for which fabric or thread, why are there so many different machine needles, or how often should I change them? We will answer those questions and more.

 

PIECED LANDSCAPES CLASS – Monday  February 1^st  9:30 – 12:00 $25.00 plus pattern

A new technique we found at market- very detailed without paper piecing! 

 

SQUARE IN A SQUARE – Wednesday February 3^rd & 10^th  1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

This class uses a special ruler to make fabulous quilts that look like they are much more work than they are. A tool and technique you will use  for years to come!

 

FINISHING YOUR QUILT – Friday February 5^th   9:30-12:30    . $25.00 supplies included.

We will teach you to sandwich, quilt and bind your quilt.

LAYERED WAVES- Wednesdays February 17^th & 24^th      9:30-12:00    $40 plus book

Come learn this easy technique for layering curves in 3 simple steps! Make a striking quilted jacket, vest, bag, or wall hanging.

 

CHENILLE RUG – Tuesdays February 26^th     9:30 – 12:30  $25.00 plus pattern.

This soft chenille rug will be a fun thing to make for a gift or your home.

Are you a featherweight fanatic?  Birds of a feather flock together at Bluebird Quilt Studio the fourth Monday of each month 6:30-8 PM.

 

SHOW AND TELL

Share your latest project or get ideas from avid quilt fans at 11 AM the first Saturday of each month.  Inspiration and refreshments provided.  All individuals sharing a project receive a complimentary gift.

 

BLUEBIRD SKILL BUILDERS CLUB

Learn fun new skills each month in a calendar quilt themed challenge. We will meet the third Saturday of the month at 1 PM. Your first block is $5, complete the block by the next month and you will receive some materials and a pattern for the next month’s block at no charge, otherwise the mini-class/supply kit is $5 per session. 

 

QUILTS THAT SING! QUILT SHOW November 7^th & 8^th  2009  Join us for a unique musical quilt show experience!  Proceeds to benefit

Camp Hodia – Camp for Children with Diabetes.

Birds of a Feather

Birds of a feather do flock together!  We are so having so much fun meeting new people, seeing new quilts and sharing our love of quilting with beginning quilters.  Thank you for your overwhelming support for our studio. 

The purpose of this blog is to inform you of news related to our store, fun quilting tips and ideas and to share your wonderful stories and projects related to quilting our growing quilt family.  We hope this site encourages and inspires you to undertake new quilting adventures and lifts your spirit.
